How the Rivermaid Grew Her Tail

Have you ever wondered why the sun and moon live in the sky?

Or how a Rivermaid grows her tail? On a dark, humid night in southern Ghana, Asase Yaa, the mother of Anansi the spider-man, spins her children a bedtime story, as delicate and intricate as her web.

Weaving a tale which crosses space and time, this nested narrative threads together legends of African American, Caribbean and West African descent. Stories within stories emerge within an inventive retelling of how infamous Anansi fulfilled his destiny.

By playing with genre and typography, this lyrical, twisting tale dances with the craft of mythmaking exploring how and why oral traditions are integral to black culture.
